At a bit more than two hundred years old, Odessa is a young and unique city, colourful and glittering from its perception. Odessa was the joint child that arouse out of the union of Greeks, Italians, Germans, French, Russians and other parents. They created it and raised together contributing much to its development. The city is still a melting pot of languages and mentalities. Every year at the very beginning of September the citizens celebrate Odessa's birthday. Open-air stages present concerts, featuring artists from Ukraine and other countries of the former Soviet Union. For several years the Golden Crown opera festival has been also integrated into the festivals.
